Ring Circulars.
Since its inception, the Ring has maintained a regular circular newsletter service to its
member clubs. This group of documents are collectively known as "Ring
Circulars". The format has varied over the years from duplicated or cycostyled sheets
to the current magazine style issues.
Similarly the content has been variable, ranging from simple reminders of coming events,
through regular reports of member clubs' activities and including articles of specific
interest at the time of issue. In later years it has become the norm for a number of other
documents or information sheets to accompany circulars. Often these deal with specific
issues.
Minutes of Meetings.
There exist two main runs of minutes.
The first relates to Annual Ring Meetings, and cover a wide range of issues of relevance
at the time. Also included are details of the regular election of Ring Officers, election
of new clubs into Ring membership and of course reports form the Squire, Bagman and
latterly the Treasurer and other officers.
The second deals with the Ring Advisory Council, which was set up in 1960 to act as an
advisory body for the Squire. It consists of the Ring officers for the time being,
together with all past Squires and Bagmen.
Both these runs of papers include associated agendas and backing papers.
Ring Meetings.
The Archive maintains a comprehensive collection of documents covering the regular Ring
Meetings organised on behalf of the Ring by its member clubs. Coverage is variable. In
some instances very full documentation is available, including brochures, posters, full
details of attendees, minutes of organisational meetings and accounts. For other meetings,
particularly early ones, details are much more sparce. The Archive is actively seeking to
enhance its collection in this area.
Accounts.
Accounts books and petty cash books dealing with Ring funds are held.
Ring Officers.
The Archive holds the personal papers of a number of Squires and Bagmen covering their
period in office. Once again coverage is variable depending upon the individual. In some
cases these documents are supplemented by both information covering the activities of
individuals after the completion of their terms of office, and also, where individuals
have made contributions to the folk community on a wider basis, documents are frequently
held covering this aspect.
